Birthdays are so fun with little kids. We celebrated Dan’s
34th over two days. On Sunday Alena M. (ninth-grader) came over and
babysat while we went to KissSalis Therme (spa). Afterwards we ate some
fabulous pizza and doner at a nearby restaurant then afterwards topped off dinner with McDonalds sundaes.
Monday night was Dan's real birthday and we celebrated with
the girls. Rice Krispy Treats were his choice instead of cake. Loralynn was so
excited that she had a smile plastered to her face the entire event. She was
thrilled that Daddy let her help unwrap his presents.
On Saturday we had spent a good amount of time making the
gift that Loralynn wanted to give Daddy. It was entirely her idea with no prompting—I
had simply asked if she wanted to buy or make Daddy something. She couldn’t
wait for Daddy to see it, but she kept telling him not to peek on Saturday. She
wanted to make a paper chain with stickers and stamps all over. I cut 34 strips of paper and we
wrote messages on some of them. Tana helped with the decorating, too. When Daddy opened the gift, she loved listening to
him read the words she had me write. The chain also ended up being a good visual aid to show her that she was three years old (with three chains) and Daddy was 34 years old (a LOT of chains).
I got Dan a new German board game “Thurn und Taxis” and an
audio book by John Piper. I brought in the Rice Krispy Treats with four lit
candles while we (mostly me) sang “Happy Birthday”. Tana blew out two of them
immediately and Dan blew out the other two. It was a fun evening made more
exciting with cute kids. Here are two candid videos of our celebration:
