| We've loved living in this house in our little German village for the last four years. |
Yesterday we were given big news. It seems like it has been a long time in
coming. Since we found out that the American army post in Schweinfurt is
closing down September 2014, we were wondering how long we would get to stay in
the place we've called home for almost seven years. The elementary/middle
school where Dan teaches has to cut their staff nearly in half at end of this
school year because student enrollment numbers for the fall will be down.
After thinking we were definitely going to be sent somewhere else overseas with Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) in June, we were told we get to stay for the very last school year of Schweinfurt American schools! After the initial shock and readjustment of our mindsets, we are excited about staying here to the end and closing this place that we love. Everything will remain the same with our home life but Dan’s work life will be much different: The fall will be the beginning of Dan’s first year without a classroom full of kids since he began teaching 12 years ago. His title will be Educational Technologist (ET) for the K-6th grade school.

Wow, that is BIG news! I'm glad you get to stay - what continuity your family has provided to that community! -Ellie
